Rowfant Club Photographs 1880-1960

The Rowfant Club is a Cleveland, Ohio, club open by invitation only to men of diverse business and professional interests whose bond is a love of books, book collecting, and the art of bookmaking. Organized in 1892, the club chose to identify itself with Frederick Locker-Lampson by adopting the name of his Sussex County, England, estate, "Rowfant." The club insignia, groundhog and candles, are used in initiation and election procedures. The collection consists of photographs, postcards, negatives, and sketches relating to the Cleveland Rowfant Club, its members, activities, facilities, and other related subjects. Photographs include individual and group portraits of members, interior and exterior views of the Rowfant Club, views of objects, other Rowfant Clubs, paper-making, photographs related to literary figures, and libraries.
